Our donation for this year went to the Kehl animal shelter

2023 is ending, and as tradition goes, eLoc Smart Solutions made a contribution to a cause we care about. This year, the entire donation went to the local animal shelter here in Kehl – animal protection and welfare being a constant cause we support.

The association is called Tierschutzverein Kehl Hanauerland e.V, and of course they do an amazing job and need as much support as we can all give them.

Here is a rough translation into English of presentation of the Kehl animal shelter on their website:

“Dear Friends and Supporters
The Kehl Animal Shelter was founded 55 years ago by Dr. Schoder, a Kehl veterinarian. Not much is known about the past: times were apparently variable, depending on who was running the animal protection association and thus the shelter. Every city/municipality is fundamentally obligated to take in found animals. This responsibility is usually transferred to private animal shelters, which receive a fee for this service. However, the money from the municipalities is far from enough to cover all running costs. Therefore, the shelter depends on support from the public. For this, an animal shelter must have a good reputation. In 2016, together with some very committed people and with the help of the city of Kehl, we took over the management of the animal protection association/shelter. Before that, the reputation was at rock bottom, and the conditions in the shelter were no longer acceptable. Thanks to the good networking of our new board members, the public, companies, businesses, and municipalities gave us a new chance. After the first major cleaning, the shelter team was also restructured. Thanks to the Citizens’ Foundation, private individuals, Kehl banks, the city of Kehl, and “AKTION TIER,” one of Germany’s largest animal and nature protection associations, we were able to invest in hygiene measures, and the shelter has literally blossomed. The animals’ illness rate has significantly decreased. With a lot of volunteer work, the outdoor area has been enhanced. The grounds now invite people to come. Proof of this are the many dog walkers and our well-attended events such as the summer festival and the Advent punch gathering. We took over the shelter in 2016 with debt; meanwhile, we’re breaking even. Nevertheless, it’s always a balancing act whether the money will be enough.” – The Board, Hans-Peter and Susanne

And on a personal level, this year we continued to support Ein Zuhause für Tiere e.V. every month by sponsoring a cat there. She is called Slawa and is blind and had it rough in her previous life. Being a sponsor means financially supporting her feed, vaccines and running expenses.
